Obituary of Shirley Ducksworth-Bowen

Shirley Louise Ducksworth Bowen, 81, departed from this life on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Shirley was born July 10, 1936 to the late Helen Mae and Henry Leatherbury in Mardela, MD.

She has been a healthcare provider at Salisbury Nursing Home and later was self employed at Eden House in Allen, MD. Shirley was a very pleasant and joyful person and was friendly with everyone that she made contact with. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends; she loved country music and the blues and would do her own style of singing and dancing while listening.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Rooselvelt Bowen; 3 stepdaughters, Joann Bowen (Alnes Collins) of Painter, VA, Vanessa Bowen also of Painter and Takohra Dillard of Baltimore, MD; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A god daughter Rasheena Butts also her great niece of Allen; they both shared the same birthdate. She also is left to cherish her memory three sisters, Josephine Thompson of Allen, Dorothy L. Sterling also of Allen and Lorraine B. Mays of Salisbury; sister in law, Marilyn Leatherbury of Fruitland and a brother in law, George Jenkins of Salisbury. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all whom she greatly adored and loved as her own children. The feeling was mutually shared.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, William Leatherbury, Ann Carter, Ruth Smith, Ida Jenkins, Robert Lee Leatherbury; step son, Roy Lee Bowen; nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, Michael Tomlin, Jr., Steven Leatherbury, Robert Smith, Yvette Jenkins, Levi Thompson, Letha Thompson, Jonathan Mays and Lamar Dennis.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 19 at 2 pm at Stewart Funeral Home by Holloway and Downey PA, 821 West Rd., Salisbury, MD 21801. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
