Obituary of Mary Maycock
Mary Maycock the wife of the late Walter Maycock, Sr passed away peacefully Friday, October 27, 2017. Born in Salisbury, Maryland October 2, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Herman Christopher, Sr and the late Martha Wright.
Mary was raised in Eden, Maryland and attended Somerset County Schools. She worked at Campbell Soup for many years when she left her employment there to own and operate her own business, Maycock’s Texaco Service Center with her husband Walter.
Mary was a member of St James AME Zion Church where she served on the Progressive Club, Conference and Missions Worker, Chairperson for Women’s Day and the International Tea Festival which brought crowds from miles to taste her Caribbean dishes of her husband’s homeland.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her six daughters Barbara Harris (Ulysses), Joan Maycock, Dianna Swift, Lisa Stewart (Van), Joanna Duncan (Michael) and Kimberly Christopher; one son Walter Maycock, Jr (Faye). Two nephews she raised as sons Lamont Christopher and Samuel Jones. Three adopted daughters Antoinette Stephens, Monica Stephens and Yvette Stephens. Grandchildren Ashley Harris, Depre Maycock, Jameon Maycock, Courtney Stewart, Fanta Swift, Logan Swift, Tiara Swift, Crystal Miller, Latoya Smith, Lynette Smith, Mariah Smith. 13 great grandchildren. One sister Anne Brown Carr. Cousin Maggie Dorman who she loved as sister.
One brother Otis “Ott” Polk. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death are her sister Martha Jean Christopher and two brothers Ira Polk and Herman Christopher, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at noon at St. James AME Zion Church, 521 Mack Ave., Salisbury, MD 21801 with a viewing one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. David L. McLendon will be officiating. Interment will take place at Green Acres Memorial Park in Salisbury.
