Lenwood “Lenny” Albert Bratten, Sr., went home to his Heavenly Father January 3, 2017 at his home. He was born in New York on April 19, 1941 to the late Rossie Woodly Bratten, Sr. and Sarah Catherine Hill Bratten.
Lenny was preceded in death by two sons, Lenwood “Lil Lenny” Albert Bratten, Jr. and Carl Lamont Bratten; two brothers, James Edward Bratten and Ronald “Ronnie” Bratten, Sr.
Lenny is survived by two children, Angela L. Bratten and Michael L. Bratten; his ex-wife of 49 years, Mamie E. Bratten; two sisters, Sylvia (Allen) Rider and Doris Bratten; three brothers: Elder Rossie Alfonzo Bratten II (Catherine), Elder Alver Bratten (Vernelle) and Edward “Eddie” James Bratten; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; step-children: Chantel Corbin-Johnson, Earlee Corbin and Tawanna Corbin; five step-grandchildren; a dear friend, Leila Corbin; a dear friend, Karen Jacob, whom he met in 2007.
Lenwood started his journey as a young man in the school system of Worcester County and ended in Wicomico County at Salisbury High, where he graduated as a Salisbury Alumni. Shortly after graduation, he was married and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Lenwood always loved planes, with that being said he signed up for the 82nd Airborne Division, where he became a hero of war. For his service he received several commendations: Parachute Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Combat Infantryman’s Badge, National Defense Service Medal along with an Honorable Discharge.
After the military, Lenny started driving trucks for various companies before he decided to go to school to become a Master Barber. He cut hair for many years.
After retirement Lenny devoted himself to one of his passions, Singing. Lenny had style and charm with a smooth voice when he sang. He could sing at almost every level and now he is singing with the Heavenly Choir.
Lenny you will be forever missed.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 am at New Hope Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Eastern Shore of Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock. A private family repass will be held.
