Mary Magdalene McBride was born to Sarah McBride and the late Glover Davis, Sr. in Salisbury, Maryland on November 27, 1945. She departed this life on March 16, 2019, in her home.
Mary was a graduate of Salisbury High School, class of 1963. She was also a graduate of Salisbury University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, in 1979. She was then employed by the University of Maryland Corporative Extension Office as a Nutrionist for 20 years. Mary was later employed at Salisbury University where she retired after 10 years.
Mary was a member of Mount Calvery United Methodist Church where she also served as a Sunday school teacher.
She was one of a kind with a heart of gold. She held love in her heart for everyone she came across. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Those who knew her, loved her. She loved cooking, listening to music, and let's not forget BINGO! She was also loved for her words of encouragement and advice. She was never short of words and was very outspoken, always saying what was on her mind. She was also known by many as Monk, Monkey, or Ms. Mary.
In addition to her mother, Mary leaves to cherish her loving memory: her two daughters, Melissa McBride and Cheryl McBride-Allen; four grandchildren, Dontè McBride, Myesha Hunter, Iyana Hunter, and Cheridan Allen; six great grandchildren, LeMyra McBride, LeKwon McBride, Kiyan Hall, Ar'eyana Smith, Kyrie Hall, and Ayden Smith; three brothers, Gary Davis, Anthony Davis, and Michael Davis; four sisters, Denise Davis, Patricia McBride, Gloria McBride, and Angie Brown; four loving and devoted friends of 30+ years, Mary Jane Wilson, Barbara Brown, Arnetta Sample, and Ruby Collier; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her father, Mary was also preceded in death by her grandmothers; Lecolia McBride and Cora Davis, grandfather; Evelyn Jackson McBride, stepmother; Mary Elizabeth Davis, three brothers; Glover Davis, Jr., Larry Davis, and Kenneth McBride, three sisters; Elizabeth Ann Davis, Diane Davis-Cropper, and Sharon Davis, and son-in-law; Eric Allen.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 11 am at Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church, Fruitland, MD. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
