Joseph Richard Turner, 75, departed this life surrounded by his loving family on April 10, 2018 at Deer’s Head Coastal Hospice by the Lake in Salisbury, MD after struggling from Lengthy illnesses. Richard, as he was better known as, was born on September 19, 1942 to the late Warner P. and Annie Rosalie Turner in Quantico, MD.
He received his former education at Quantico Elementary School and graduated from Salisbury High School in 1961. He then became an Auto Body Mechanic at Davis Auto Body and then later expanded his career as a Truck Driver for Avon. Richard was also an active and faithful member at Mt. Zion United Methodist where he took on early Christian training and joined several organizations.
His passion included spending time with his loving family, gardening, having BBQ's, and being a jokester. Richard’s nieces, nephews, and grandchildren especially, knew about the big bear claw or rather the pinch! He mostly enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Cornell Turner of 55 years. Richard and Cornell met in 9th grade at Salisbury High School and later married in 1962. To this beautiful union, he was the loving father of: Joseph Turner (Dawn) of Wilmington, DE; Cornellius Turner of Salisbury, MD; Kaile Turner (Marie) of Salisbury, MD, and Joanne Key of Cherry Hill, NJ. He was also the attentive grandfather of: Monica Turner, Staci Turner Fooks, Kaile Turner, Kasie Turner, Tyson Ferguson, Jowaunte Key, Kwamaine Key, Keshawn Shepperson, Melanie Shepperson, Kesson Turner, Ashea Turner, JoeBree Turner, Josiah Turner, Roashell Turner and multiple loving great-grandchildren; three sisters Connie Polk of Salisbury, MD; Helen Cherry (Leo) of Salisbury, MD; Dolly-Mae Reaves (JP) of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Harold Turner (Lorraine) of Clinton, MD; one brother-in law, Samuel Williams Jr of Salisbury, MD; two uncle's: Ernest Price (Elizabeth) of Philadelphia, PA; and Leonard Price of Salisbury, MD; one aunt: Patsy Ball of Kilmarnock, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by two brothers Warner Turner, George Turner, and one sister Juanita Williams. Richard will forever be in our hearts and the memories will be forever cherished.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 2 pm at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at the church cemetery.
