Gladys Gertrude Roberts Mack was born in Baltimore, MD on December 13, 1922 to the late Daisy Stansbury Roberts and George Roberts. She was the youngest of thirteen children, attended public school, and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. She studied Cosmetology at Apex Beauty College and finished as a Certified Cosmetologist.
She met Reverend Charles Henry Mack while he was attending Lincoln University in Oxford, PA, as he was receiving as his Bachelor of Divinity degree. They were married on June 6, 1948, and from this union, Charletta Lenoris, Carlton Stansbury, and Deshera Pamela were born. They served over 50 years as Pastor and First Lady at St. James, Salisbury, MD and retired to Durham, NC in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Reverend Doctor Charles Henry Mack, only son, Carlton Stansbury, Sr., and youngest daughter, Deshera Pamela. She is survived by oldest daughter Charletta Mack Hines (Dr. Marcono Hines, Sr.), daughter-in-law Madre Mack-Coleman, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many other extended family members and special friends.
A Celebration of Life was held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at St. Mark AME Zion Church, 531 S. Roxboro St., Durham, 27701 at 12 Noon.
