Roland Reginald Purnell

Roland Reginald Purnell, life’s journey came to an end on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake after a lingering illness.

 

“Reggie” as he was more commonly known as was born on November 9, 1952 to Ruth Collick Purnell and the late Roland Lester Purnell. He received his early education in the public schools of Wicomico County and graduated from James M. Bennett High School, Salisbury, Maryland in 1970.

 

Reggie worked for C&P Telephone/Bell Atlantic which later became Verizon Telephone company for over 40 years as an installer. After his retirement Reggie worked part time for Dove Point as a driver.

 

Reggie received his early Christian training at Coolsprings United Methodist Church, Girdletree, MD and Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church in Fruitland.

 

In his younger years he loved to be part of the track team in school and was a member of the Lake Street Sprinters, Salisbury, MD. He also had a love of bowling and was a member of several bowling teams until his health prevented him from continuing to throw strikes.

 

He could make you laugh or even bring a smile to any situation no matter how sad or unpopular it may be. There were times you just couldn’t get mad at Reggie because he didn’t take things too seriously.  

 

Reggie was loved by all and leaves to cherish fond memories his four his four children, Cori Purnell, Tyron Purnell, Ketiya Purnell and Broaderick Purnell; his mother, Ruth Carey; four grandchildren, Ke’asa, Calvin, Corey and Jaquay; seven sisters, Selina Dickerson, Connie Harmon (Gerald), Carol Hyman-Wilson (Lawrence), Brenda Moore (Clifford); four brothers, Oscar Purnell, Lester Purnell, Lawrence Purnell (Dionne), Carlton Mills and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a brother, Orlando Purnell.

 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 10 am at St. James Free Methodist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
